- Laptops that don't have modems are useless.
- Newtons that don't have Ethernet are useless.
- Asocial hermits who don't talk to other people are useless.
Computers that do not talk to other computers are useless, to me at any rate.

Snow, a Dead Laptop, and Interchangeable Parts
As you may have heard, it snowed from Sunday evening to Monday evening, with a sprinkle of frosting on Tuesday. So I didn't come into the office. Working at home has its advantages: you can shovel snow; you can play with the kids; you can eat lunch with your wife; you can curse your work-issued laptop for not powering up; you can curse work's policies regarding the VPN that make it difficult for you to manage your W2K systems; you can attend conference calls on your cell phone because your land-line has been consumed by data travelling at a speedy 56 kilobits per second; and you can shovel more snow when the plowman doesn't show.But once the cars are no longer buried, and the driveway is clear (150 ft x 8 ft x 22 in = 316,000 ft), Dell has excellent customer service, and work has another Latitude C600, and the IBM Travelstar disk doesn't mind the travel.
Time to backup my Radio.
(And, Dave, you missed the most important thing about February 18th: it's my birthday.)
