Sounds like Dorothea Salo and Jim McGee (and Loyd and Stuart Langridge Kryogenix and ...) have the same scorn for these beasts that I do. One of my study hall periods in high school shared the same room with the computer class, so I picked up a little here and there while we played on theRight.
That may've been the case once, but that was long before the event-driven paradigm. Now computers incarnate programmers who attempt to guess at what you might want and then guess at what might be the appropriate response.
