Upgrading Apache/Win32

  1. Uninstall Apache
  2. Install Apache

See the problem?

The problem is that the service has to stop, and be removed. Then the files have to be removed, and Registry entries updated. And, then, you can install the new version. This is almost as much fun as upgrading IIS, except you don't have the joy of rebooting.

All of that effort translates into downtime. Downtime is bad. But, of course, we've planned our infrastructure around this, have more than one host for this particular service, and can avoid downtime with a rolling upgrade. Right?
