Typing is Not Writing

I hear that some schools are dispensing with writing classes in order to teach typing keyboarding. Not only do I have issues with the term "keyboarding," but I find it ridiculous that writing won't be taught. Young children may be able to find letters on a keyboard, and compose words and sentences using the keyboard, easier than they do moving a pencil, but that is not writing.

If you take away the crutch they need to communicate, will they still be able to? Or will they only be able to make their mark?

That said, I'm digging through Apple's archives in order to re-assemble a working LC-III for the Big Sister.
