Uh oh. Sounds like the disk in my DirecTiVo is failing.
While it whines about how hard its short life has been, the video output is blocked, waiting for the I/O to complete. This is not a graceful failure. It is, however, a design decision: that it is better to retry and attempt to save the incoming data, than to drop some bits and allow the output to continue unhindered. -But it is a poor design decision, because the disk access failures are persistent enough that the disk cache overflows, and data is lost. So they might as well have just sent it to the screen.
