[W]e don't need an emulator of the 18th century to read Ben Franklin's essays.
That's an interesting thought. Part of the discipline of history involves setting oneself outside of the present, and attempting immersion in the past to understand it, becoming, in effect, an emulator of the 18th Century reading Benjamin Franklin's essays.
