Conscientious Objection

I noticed a change to the standard copyright notice in a book I purchased recently. The copyright notice now explicitly forbids the use of this material in full or in part for any purpose related to the training or use of artificial intelligence. On the one hand, I’m in favor of just such a restriction. On the other, I suppose we do want the bots to be trained primarily on what passes for sense online, so that the general enshittification of everything will also enshittify “AI” through the basic principle of Garbage In, Garbage Out.

Meanwhile, I’m debating whether I should remove my Internet presence in much the same way that Mark Pilgrim did.
