Blog Doldrums

I've been concentrating on work, of all things, and writing on an internal site rather than this one. The internal site is driven by MovableType. It has issues for multi-user environments, which is understandable since it's focus is not multiple users or multiple sites. I think I see relics of that focus in TypePad's URIs:

How can you tell if a trial is effective when the first impressions are, like, wow, but their published writings are few and far between? The other thing I've found is that Radio does work well when you want to send the same item in three different directions at once.

I've never been a fan of "me too" postings, so my link output has been slim, even though I've seen lots of interesting stuff when I bother to read my n'aggregator. Sorry about that, Google. I'd like to make it up to you by pointing out this luddite who has many to offer.

On the plus side, not only is the DirecTiVo on-line again, now that we have both it and a properly imprinted access card, but I'm enjoying Guns, Germs, and Steel, which so far, boiled down, casts history as poker. Europeans are where we are because of the luck of the draw. Or, as we classicly put it:

American by Birth. Southern by the Grace of God.

So the Cylons were our creation? Is that a novelty of the new series? A touch of the Berserker there, don't you think? The native inhabitants of the Americas and Australia suffered an evolutionary disadvantage because they exterminated their large mammals within a few centuries of first contact. Will the cyborg synthesis enjoy an evolutionary advantage over the pure machine, or pure human? Which defense mechanism will be better: a machine alone, or a machine and a sysadmin?

And while I'm on the subject of selection, what benefit is related to myopia? Why is myopia dominant? I want it out of my gene pool; what's the cost?

Oh, and the LASEK surgery was a success. My vision looks like it will hit 20/40 by the time I'm done healing.
