Resolution

Resolved, That these United Colonies are, and, of right, ought to be, Free and Independent States; that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British crown, and that all political connexion between them, and the state of Great Britain, is, and ought to be, totally dissolved.

Chris Gillen asks,

Okay, everyone who thinks Iraq is now a sovereign nation, raise their hands.

I've just made a deal that'll keep the Empire out of here forever.  — Lando Calrissian

Who Shall Be Saved?

The Presbyterians are in General Assembly this week.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports on yesterday's opening service, where

about 8,000 Presbyterians were told that the shepherd, not the sheep, will decide who is invited, protected and welcomed into the fold.

Or to quote the reading, John 10:1-16,

And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.

Riding in the Big Red Car

Sam Ruby quotes Susan Campbell, then suggests that a video player in your minivan might be a good investment. Ms. Campbell's article suggests car games. We play car games. Do your children really need to be sedated?

Deena, my wife, who prefers that I refer to her by name, spends her days with the girls. They play all sorts of word games in the car. I only get to play on the weekends. On top of the old standards like "I Spy," they play "Plurals" and "Let's Count Red Cars!" The Big Sister came up with a variation on 20 questions, "Creatures."

She says, "I'm thinking of a creature, who lives under the sea, and whose name begins with 'A.'" And then we ask yes or no questions.
