Greetings, Sports Fans

Cablevision will carry the Yankees.

(BTW, Dave Winer, a diehard Mets fan, will be in Boston, at Harvard, to watch the Sox lose again.)

Hypothetical of the Day: Selling Shifted Data

Suppose a given item, an early CD from a famous band, sells on eBay for $1.00. eBay takes $0.37 for a listing fee. The mailer for the CD costs $0.50, and postage is $1.25. This leaves the seller without ($1.12), which he has paid to remove an unwanted disc from his collection.

Suppose further that in addition to offering the original CD, he also offered a disc containing fully tagged MP3 and Ogg versions of the album, playlists for the album's order and his preferred listening order, and redistributable players for each format.

  • Would this increase the value of the offering sufficiently to cover the costs of shipping and handling?
  • Would the transaction be legal?

Search and Destroy

Q: Why does Frontier suck as a development environment?

A: Because search and replace is unpredictable. It's more like search and destroy.
